Regenerative Treatment for Peri-implantitis: When Is It Advisable? What Makes It Predictable??
Paul S. Rosen(Clinical Professor of Periodontics University of Maryland Dental School)
Dental implants are not immune to biologic complications and peri-implantitis is a disease entity that threatens their survival due to bone loss beyond physiologic modeling/remodeling. The dilemma for clinicians is that the systematic reviews provide no clear idea of how to best manage this problem. Furthermore, our understanding of the risks factors associated with this disease continues to change. This lecture will both identify the emerging risks which should be avoided to prevent this disease along with discussing a regenerative algorithm which has demonstrated predictable short- and long-term success for treating peri-implantitis once established.
-Discuss the advantages to a regenerative surgical approaches for treating peri-implantitis.
-Discuss the difficulties behind implant surface decontamination.
-Identify the emerging risk factors behind peri-implantitis.
